about the trek

This classic trekking in the Everest Circuit is a two week trekking for the healthy trekker. The route takes you across one of the Nepal’s most famous mountain ranges, all the way to the basecamp of world's highest mountain.

You need a good physical condition because during this trekking you'll walk 5 up to 7 hours a day.

The first day of this trekking is already exciting as you'll take a mountain flight to Lukla. The continuously climbing and descending the first couple of days are the most challenging. The route goes from west to east, while the rivers and valleys run from north to south. The final part leads you through Khumbu, the home area of the original Sherpa's.

This EBC trek is such a classical trek that leads you through valleys and stunning forests of rhododendrons, magnolia's and bamboo ... all the way up to the basecamp of worlds' highest mountain!

alternative trekking routes

You can also follow the original trail Hillary and Tenzing took back in the '50 when they went to Everest's summit. Take a look at our Everest Basecamp trek from Giri in which you don't take a shortcut via Lukla but follow the entire trail in about 22 days.

You could also consider our adventurous Island Peak climbing in which you go to Island Peak (6189m) via EBC and Kala Patthar (5545m).

day 02 | Flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding -  3/4 hrs.
Early morning your guide takes you to Tribhuwan International Airport for the short but scenic flight to Tenzing and Hillary Airport at Lukla (2804m). Upon arrival at the airport, your guide will brief you and introduce your porters before beginning your trek towards Phakding (2610m).

After landing we take our time to explore the village while your Sherpa crew sorts and loads the trekking equipment. Then we begin the trek by descending towards the Dudh Koshi River where we join the main trail to Namche Bazaar, located just above Chaunrikharka (2713m). The walk is easy and after passing through the small village of Ghat (2550m) it is a short walk to Phakding.

overnight at a mountain lodge

day 03 | Trek to Namche Bazaar - 5/6 hrs.
After breakfast we continue trekking along the banks of the Dudh Koshi, crossing this majestic river many times on exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags. After entering Sagamartha National Park, the trail climbs steeply with breathtaking views. Namche Bazaar (3441m) known as the Gateway to Everest, is home to many quality restaurants, hotels, lodges, shops, money exchanges, internet cafes and a bakeries. Namche is one of the biggest villages along the whole Everest trail.

day 04 | Acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar.
We spend a day here in order to acclimatize and adjust to the thinning of the air, as well as a short trek where a museum is celebrating the traditional customs of the Sherpa people. Today we hike up the Syangboche Airport around Everest View Hotel. From this point, we can see rewarding views of the Himalayas with stunning sunrise and sunset over the panorama of Khumbu peaks.

overnight at a mountain lodge

day 05 | Trek to Tengboche Monastery - 5/6 hrs.
The trek continues along the rushing glacial waters of the Dudh Koshi with magnificent views of the mountains. We trek to an altitude of 3860 meters today. On reaching Tengboche you will see the local monastery. Inside the monastery are incredibly ornate wall hangings, a 20-foot sculpture of Buddha, and the musical instruments and robes of the Lamas. The group will be taken to observe a prayer ceremony either in the evening or morning depending on how the day's trekking went.

overnight at a mountain lodge

day 06 | Trek to Dingboche - 5/6 hrs.
From Tengboche the trail drops to Debuche, crosses another exciting suspension bridge on the Imja Khola, and climbs to Pangboche amongst thousands of mani stones. Our uphill trek continues, taking us to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche (4350m) with its exquisite views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. We take our time so we avoid getting affected by the altitude.

overnight at a mountain lodge

day 07 | Trek to Chhukung and trek back to Dingboche - 4/5 hrs.
Today you can enjoy another day for acclimatization. We will have a trip to Chhukung valley via the Imja Khola valley to get a marvellous view of the surrounding mountains, especially Lhotse’s massive south wall, then return to Dingboche in the evening.

overnight at a mountain lodge

day 08 | Trek to Lobuche - 5/6 hrs.
Today, the trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. We continue to climb as we are heading to the altitude of 4910 meters at Lobuche which is really just a few huts at the foot of giant Lobuche peak. Some breathing problems may arise today due to the altitude.

overnight at a mountain lodge

day 09 | Trek to Everest Basecamp and back to Gorak Shep - 7/8 hrs.
This is another big and difficult day walk along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Basecamp (5365m), the closest you can get to Mount Everest without mountaineering equipment. There will likely be a team about to attempt the summit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Basecamp is spectacular. We return back to Gorak Shep (5180m) for the night.

overnight at a mountain lodge

day 10 | Hike up to Kala Patthar and trek down to Periche - 7/8 hours.
This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. Most of morning in this day is spent climbing Mt. Kala Patthar (5555m), a small peak by Himalayan standards. The ascent is demanding but the climber gets the most magnificent mountain panorama: Everest (8848m), the highest point on the planet, towers directly ahead and on all sides loom the other giants, Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and countless others. We make a quick descent to Gorak Shep (5180m), a tiny hamlet, then trek down to Periche (4200m).

overnight at a mountain lodge

day 11 | Trek to Namche Bazaar - 6/7 hours.
From Periche we take a slightly different route down to Orsho, then to Pangboche village. Here is the oldest monastery in the region which contains what is said to be the scalp and bones of a 'Yeti', or the abominable snowman. Leaving mountains behind us, our descent takes us through Tengboche Monastery (3860m) before continuing back to the town of Namche Bazaar (3441m). We arrive back to Namche Bazaar in the afternoon.

overnight at a mountain lodge

day 12 | Trek to Lukla - 5/6 hours.
Finally we return to Lukla where the trek began, which will seem like a lifetime ago; enjoying time to reflect on the trek as a group and the personal achievement of all those who took part and also giving you time to explore the town.

overnight at a mountain lodge
